Platform Masters - Will you be the world's next platform master?
Last updated: Sep 17, 2011 (second version - details added based on known plans and observations)
Level 3 update on Jan 18, 2012 (a few extra details added, some proofreading)
1 System requirements
These are the bare minimum requirements for your computer to run Platform Masters at at least 30 fps with the lowest graphics settings possible:
- Full screen resolution: 1024x768. This is known because Platform Masters is fixed to run exclusively at 1024x768. 1024x768 is widely supported by almost every computer, even netbooks from what I've seen. If your normal resolution is 1024x768, you'll be forced to use full screen mode as the window will be cut off on the bottom making it hard or impossible to see how much HP is remaining due to the task bar obscuring it. If using widescreen, your monitor must have at least 768 pixels on the vertical (thus, 1280x720 won't work).
- Windowed resolution: 1152x864 if using a 4:3 aspect ratio (full), 1280x800 if using an 8:5 wide screen aspect ratio. If using widescreen, the resolution must have a height of at least 800 pixels in windowed mode or the window will be cut off on the bottom.
- Color depth: 16-bit. You may not be able to resolve every detail at 16-bit color and some things in Carnivalesta may be indistinguishable due to the lack of colors. The game should still run in 16-bit color just fine though.
- RAM: unknown. I have no idea how much RAM Platform Masters actually uses.
- Video card: A GeForce 4xxx or Radeon 8500. These cards seem to be at the limit from what I can tell from Wikipedia given Ronnisa Plains and worlds 3 and 16.
- Video RAM: 96 MB. This is what my plans have called for almost ever since I first started working on Platform Masters.
- Processor: Pentium 4 2.5 GHz. I have no idea what grade of processor is needed for Platform Masters to run. Due to an unexplained mystery, Platform Masters seems fairly CPU-demanding.
- Input: Keyboard only. A mouse, joystick, or controller can be present, but they otherwise won't do any good as Platform Masters doesn't use these (the latter 2 I don't have so I can't test for them anyway).
- Audio: No. Platform Masters does have music and sound effects, however, it can be played without sound, though it may have a slight negative impact on performance since you may not know if an enemy is nearby launching projectiles.
- Hard disk space: around 400 to 600 MB. I have no idea how much disk space Platform Masters will use for installation, but current estimates point to an area around 400 to 600 MB, about the size of a typical CD. This cannot be known until Platform Masters is near completion.
2 System recommendations
These are the recommended system specificiations to run Platform Masters at at least 60 fps and with optimal graphics settings. Higher specifications than these are recommended more than this list:
1280x720 won't work as the window's vertical size is bigger than 720. If using widescreen, the resolution must have a height of at least 800 pixels in windowed mode or the window will be cut off on the bottom.
- Color depth: 32-bit. 32-bit color brings out every fine detail, showing the rich beauty and detail in Platform Masters. Pretty much every computer today supports 32-bit color at the required 1024x768 resolution.
- RAM: unknown. I have no idea how much RAM Platform Masters actually uses.
- Video card: A GeForce 7600 GT or Radeon 9800. With the GeForce 7600 GT I had, I was nearly maxing everything out and still getting 60 fps. Only worlds 3 and 16 were causing problems due to the precipitation effect.
- Video RAM: 96 MB. This is what my plans have called for almost ever since I first started working on Platform Masters.
- Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz. Due to an unexplained mystery, Platfrom Masters seems fairly CPU-demanding. I would suggest at least a dual core processor so that way you have the ability to shut down the program should an infinite loop occur.
- Input: Keyboard only. A mouse, joystick, or controller can be present, but they otherwise won't do any good as Platform Masters doesn't use these (the latter 2 I don't have so I can't test for them anyway).
- Audio: Yes.
